Before Your Surgery
Before your surgery, you may feel anxious and uncertain about the outcome. Seeing one of our physiotherapists can help alleviate your nerves, making you feel better prepared. We’ll take you through all the possible risks of your surgery and what to expect afterwards. Most importantly, we’ll teach you how to manage these risks.
The primary goal of seeing a physician before your surgery is to prevent the risk of a postoperative pulmonary complication. This is the umbrella term used to explain any adverse effects to the respiratory system which may occur post-op. This includes altered function of the respiratory muscles, reduced lung volume, atelectasis or respiratory failure.
We’ll provide you with information and exercises to help your body prepare for the procedure. These will vary depending on your unique health needs and the kind of operation you’re preparing for. If you’ve got an upcoming surgery scheduled which you’re nervous about, call us today on

Surgery Recovery & Pain Management
The primary risk after surgery is reduced lung volume. Our team will develop a personalised recovery plan to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.
This plan may entail:
- Mobilisation – this includes movement exercises to improve lung volume & circulation
- Positioning exercises – sitting up & changing positions to improve ventilation & remove secretions
- Deep breathing exercises – to help reinflate a collapsed lung, practice airway clearing techniques & avoid pain or discomfort
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) – to help you breathe easier
- Intermittent Positive Pressure – help improve sputum retention & lung volume
- Incentive spirometry – help stimulate deep breathing
We’ll work with you to find the best treatment for your individual needs.
How To Cover Your Treatment
After your session with one of our physicians, you’ll need to pay in full at the front counter. In most cases—and if you’ve been provided with a treatment plan by your GP—you’ll receive a Medicare benefit. If you need to pay with a credit card, we’re unable to complete the process on the spot but will provide you with a receipt to claim your rebate online.
We understand how financially draining medical care can be—particularly after surgery. We do our best to ensure our services are easily accessible and affordable for all patients. If you have any questions about how to access our services, call us on
